Since I was a young girl, I would be in awe of people's beauty and it wasn't because of their lipstick and perfected skin.
It was Drew Barrymore's lopsided grin, the waitress's scar above her brow as she took my order, the frazzled mom's deep glow of her makeup free skin, my childhood best friend's freckled skin in the summer, the shining thick black hair of my coworker -- it was never the makeup of the actual hairstyle that caught my eye.
It was always the quirks about them or what they may have considered imperfections that I found beautiful.
When I went to cosmetology school and followed that with an extensive Fashion / Production Makeup Artistry certification at Cosmix School of Makeup Artistry - I instantly knew my passion was enhanced beauty.
I wanted to be a part of my client's journey of embracing their insecurities by enhancing their natural beauty rather than erasing everything that made them unique. I craved their reaction as they looked in the mirror and noticed themselves rather than the makeup.
I became a working artist in 2011 before Instagram and once social media took off, all the makeup was packed on! Distinct brows, overdrawn lips, bold liner, full coverage foundation, and heavy contouring ruled the show. Noboday wanted to see themselves the way I saw them as they sat in my chair. I would get in my head and question my career choice as I went through the motions of recreating trending looks.
Now natural makeup is in and I'm so happy because it's my passion for more reasons than it just being a trend.
